The Inner Critic acts as a kind of internal policeman. It enforces the rules of the dominant parts of your personality that are responsible for running your lives and keeping you safe in the world. When out of control it can destroy your self-confidence and can make you feel inferior, incapable and inadequate. In the worst case its nagging voice can lead to despair and depression.
However, if you can learn to listen to it objectively and not buy in to what it has to say, your Inner Critic can become an intelligent, perceptive and supportive partner in your life.
